First Aid Kits - Anyone?

Do we have first aid kits in our homes? Have we ever wondered that this is important. Whether we have children or not, we should have one.

Do We Really Need a First Aid Kit at Home?

There are a plethora of reasons why you need to have a first aid kit at home and not one reason why you shouldn't. Minor cuts, scrapes, bee stings and burns happen every second of the day in a home somewhere. Having a kit handy is one of those "stand by" items that you don't fully appreciate until you need it and it's not there.
If you have a home with children and do not have a kit then you need to obtain a quality one immediately with every essential possible item including a first aid handbook and a CPR card. Over 14,000 children in the United States alone die every year from choking and drowning at home that could have been prevented with the help of a CPR card. Children are prone to a scrape, fall or injury of some sort, sometimes daily. Additionally a great first aid kit will also have an easy to read thermometer handy which children always seem to need. Having a first aid kit in your home allows you to react to an injury quickly without having to fumble through drawers and cabinets.
Don't have children in your home? Do you think you aren't at risk for injury? Do you use a knife? Walk over carpets that you could trip over? Have stairs in your home? Mow the lawn or do any type of gardening? How about just clean your home with any type of household cleaner? You need a first aid kit. 1.5 million eye injuries happen in the home every year from a cleaning product splashing in the eye or debris injuring it from the lawn mower. A well stocked first aid kit will have saline solution to properly clean your eye and an eye patch handy to keep anything from irritating it. You cannot predict when an injury will happen but at some point it probably will.
The highest percentage of minor and fatal injuries happen in the home. 1 out of 17 people will experience an injury at any given minute and a fatal injury occurs every 14 minutes. Additionally, a first aid kit isn't only for serious injury either. You can easily cut yourself preparing dinner, fall walking down your steps outside, trip over your new rug and scrape your elbow or prick your finger on those beautiful roses that were just delivered to your door.
A properly stocked first aid kit is just one of those things that you need. You need to have access to a first aid booklet if there is an injury. You need to have a CPR card handy to reference and you need to have essential items that will properly treat an injury. A first aid kit is an investment in your health.

Splatter Painting a Wall

I had a very fulfilling day yesterday. My son and I did some splatter painting on his wall. It was a very fruitful experience and we had fun. Let me share with you what we did.
First of all you need to cover the walls that you don't need to splatter paint on as this is a very messy one. So prepare the other walls by covering it with old newspapers and a masking tape. Cover the floors too with old newspapers and plastics. Wear old clothes that you don't use as paint might get into them.
So, what are the things that you need.
Materials:
Paint ( desired color) , in our case we used dark blue color for cement walls.I only bought a pint.
Ballons ( small size)
Thumb Tacks
Funnel
Air Pump
Newspapers
Masking Tape

Method:
1. Prepare the sides of the walls that will not be painted by covering it with newspaper and masking tape. Cover the floor thoroughly so as not to have paint on the floor.
2. Put paint inside the balloon using a funnel.
3. Add air into the balloon with paint using the air pump. Then immediately tie the loose end of the balloon with a knot.
4. Put a small pin on a wall using a double sided tape but with the end of the pin which is sharp facing you.
5. Throw the balloon to the pin and it will burst and create a splatter on the wall.
6. Repeat above procedure and until the wall is fully splattered.

Okra - A Wonder Vegetable for the Diabetic

My Mom told me that recently she has been drinking OKRA water. That is the lowly OKRA soak in a glass of water overnight. And in the morning she would drink it. Her sugar level has gone down.
After hearing this from her i started surfing the web for more information about the lowly Okra.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/

Here are some informations that i got:

The Okra-plant can reach  a height of 3 to 6 feet. Sometimes the plant is used in backyard gardens as an ornamental plant. The vegetable is used for soups and stews or as a fried or boiled vegetable.
Okra is well known because of its healthy qualities. The valuable nutrients of the okra is evident. 50 % is soluble. Soluble fibre helps to lower cholesterol and  reduces the risk of heart disease. The other 50% of the vegetable (insoluble fibre) helps to decrease  the risk of some forms of cancer. Moreover, nearly 10% of the recommended levels of vitamin B6  are also present in half cup of cooked okra!

http://www.philippines.hvu.nl/vegetables3.htm

Health Benefits of Okra

  1. The superior fiber found in okra helps to stabilize the blood sugar by curbing the rate at which sugar is absorbed from the intestinal tract.
  2. Okra's mucilage binds cholesterol and bile acid carrying toxins dumped into it by the filtering liver.
  3. Okra helps lubricate the large intestines due to its bulk laxative qualities. The okra fiber absorbs water and ensures bulk in stools. This helps prevent and improve constipation. Unlike harsh wheat bran, which can irritate or injure the intestinal tract, okra's mucilage soothes, and okra facilitates elimination more comfortably by its slippery characteristic. Okra binds excess cholesterol and toxins (in bile acids). These, if not evacuated, will cause numerous health problems. Okra also assures easy passage out of waste from the body. Okra is completely non-toxic, non-habit forming, has no adverse side effects, is full of nutrients, and is economically within reach of most individuals unlike over-the-counter drugs.
  4. Okra fiber is excellent for feeding the good bacteria (probiotics). This contributes to the health of the intestinal tract.
  5. Okra is a supreme vegetable for those feeling weak, exhausted, and suffering from depression.
  6. Okra is used for healing ulcers and to keep joints limber. It helps to neutralize acids, being very alkaline, and provides a temporary protective coating for the digestive tract.
  7. Okra treats lung inflammation, sore throat, and irritable bowel syndrome.
  8. Okra has been used successfully in experimental blood plasma replacements.
  9. Okra is good for summer heat treatment.
  10. Okra is good for constipation.
  11. Okra is good in normalizing the blood sugar and cholesterol level.
  12. Okra is good for asthma. Okra's vitamin C is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, which curtail the development of asthma symptoms.
  13. Okra is good for atherosclerosis.
  14. Okra is believed to protect some forms of cancer expansion, especially colorectal cancer.
  15. Eating okra helps to support the structure of capillaries.
  16. Some information shows that eating okra lowers the risk of cataracts.
  17. Okra is good for preventing diabetes.
  18. Okra protects you from pimples and maintains smooth and beautiful skin. We understand the reason why Cleopatra and Yang Guifei loved to eat okra.

A Good Diabetic Meal Diet

Manage your Sugar Diabetes with a Sugar Diabetes Meal Plan

Donald Lawrence
As someone who suffers from diabetes, you might believe that the only way that you can contain your condition is through the utilization of medication. Fortunately, there are other things you can do besides taking medication to treat your sugar diabetes. You can have the same effect on your health as that medication by just making some small changes to your diet.
By creating a personal diabetes meal plan, the likelihood of actually maintaining the diet increases. Your plan can be made up of foods you enjoy if they are appropriate for diabetics. A food plan is helpful, but can't be successful on its own. Don't allow yourself to find ways to mentally back out of the meal plan by trying to find the perfect amount of time in your day to eat.
There are multiple advantages to using a healthful diabetes meal plan. Cholesterol levels and blood pressure can be controlled more easily with a solid diabetes meal plan. It will also keep your blood sugar levels in a normal range which is vital to controlling your diabetes.
While these benefits are obvious, your diabetic diet will also assist you in shedding your extra weight. Due to the fact that diabetes is often found in people that are overweight, it is crucial to try and eat a healthy diet so you can avoid adding those extra pounds. If you include foods you like, instead of those you don't, in your diabetes meal plan, you will be more likely to eat healthy. This diet will pay off by doing away with the extra weight you carry around and aid you in keeping your body healthy.
Keep track of the calories and carbohydrates you are eating, as proper management of that is an essential factor of a satisfactory sugar diabetes meal plan. Use a food pyramid guide as reference when attempting to comprehend the quantities of each food group that your body should have. All you need to do is create a healthy meal plan that you can follow every day without stress, and you will be well on your way to controlling your sugar diabetes and improving your health.

Label your things

I have this habit or we can call it passion for labeling my things. I always label my things so i can easily identify what it is or what it is for. I brought this fancy labeler that helps me a lot in labeling my things. I like to see my things in order - that's the reason why i label all my things.
When i was small , my Dad brought me a Dymo labeller. I used it to label all my notebooks and books and other things that i own. I used it for a couple of years. But now i found this labelling machine that is so handy and easy to use. Its a Casio EZ Labeller. It's a label printer that uses 6, 9, 12, 18 mm label tapes that comes in different colors. It has a qwerty type pad and easy to use.  It runs on 6 AA batteries.
